conservation work

For many years I have worked part-time in the field of Conservation/Restoration of Art and Architecture. This has given me the opportunity to really excel in my knowledge and manipulation of materials. It has also given me countless opportunities to work in close range with some extraordinary art from David Park to Edward Hopper to a Medieval limestone portal to 14th century Persian tiles, and on and on. What I love most is uncovering the layers of how things are made. To see art /architecture from the inside out. It makes one realize that art is definitely not a static object or idea. It often has a dynamic life of it's own. Art is always changing in its physical qualities/limitations but also how it is used and perceived over time.

It always strikes me that a thin layer of paint can have such a lasting impact on our collective psyche. That the value in life is often something rather intangible and impermanent.

I currently work with Jim Pennuto at the Conservation of Art and with Molly Lambert of Architectural Conservation Inc.
